Shavasana – Corpse Pose

Shavasana, or corpse pose, is a beginner level position that aims to stretch your shoulders and back.

 

The health benefits associated with the shavasana pose includes relaxing the shoulders and the back whilst also clearing the mind and improving breathing control and recovery.

 

However, if you have a history of heart conditions (such as heart failure) you should always consult a doctor before attempting the position. If possible, always arrange to learn this position under the supervision of an experienced teacher.

 

Instructions for Shavasana
  • Lie flat on your back on a yoga mat
  • Your arms should be angled about 45 degrees from your body
  • Practice deep breathing and keep your eyes closed
  • Maintain for as long as feels comfortable
