Simhasana – Lion Pose

Simhasana, or lion pose, is a beginner level position that aims to stretch your throat, chest, forearms and hips.

 

The health benefits associated with the simhasana pose primarily focuses on toning and strengthening your vocal cords and lungs. In doing so, it can help your recover if you have lost your voice or suffer from a stammer.

 

However, if you have recently suffered from any injuries to your neck, face or tongue always consult a doctor before attempting the position. If possible, always arrange to learn this position under the supervision of an experienced teacher.

 

Instructions for Simhasana
  • Begin in the kneeling pose, widen your knees slightly and inhale
  • Exhale, and place the palms of your hands on the floor between your knees. Your forearm should be twisted so that your fingers are pointing towards your body
  • Arch your back and stick out your tongue. If you feel comfortable doing so, roar like a lion
  • Hold for a few seconds, then return back to the kneeling pose
