Tittibhasana – Firefly Pose

Tittibhasana, or firefly pose, is an advanced level position that aims to stretch your inner groin and back muscles.

The health benefits associated with the tittibhasana pose includes increased flexibility of the hamstrings and hips whilst also opening up the chest and lungs.

However, if you have recently suffered from any back, leg, hip or shoulder injuries you should always consult a doctor before attempting the position. If possible, always arrange to learn this position under the supervision of an experienced teacher.

Instructions for Tittibhasana
  • Begin by standing with your feet a hips width apart, then slowly squat down.
  • Push your pelvis forwards so as to move your torso in between your thighs.
  • Keeping your feet firmly on the ground, straighten your legs slightly by pushing off the ground. Your pelvis should rise to around knee height.
  • Place your left hand on the floor with your arm against the inside of your left leg. Do the same with the right arm against the right leg.
  • Slowly put all of your weight onto your arms.
  • When balanced, inhale, and straighten out your legs in front of you.
  • Keeping your arms and legs straight, lift your head and exhale. Hold this pose for 15 seconds.
